Originally from Hong Kong, Tammy Chow and her husband have recently retired to cosmopolitan, and ideally located, Dubai after many years of travel and one too many cold, damp London winters.

“It is a very convenient mid-point for visiting my family in Hong Kong or London and is proving irresistible for my family to come to visit me.”

Opting for Dubai’s beachfront, Tammy is in Palm Jumeirah with exceptional views over the water and the everchanging cityscape. Deeply involved with all the apartment’s design choices, Tammy was especially keen to enlarge the kitchen.

“First and foremost, the kitchen design has to be functional so that I can enjoy cooking at home. The next important thing is the kitchen should be a pleasure to look at and blend in well with the rest of the living space.”

Describing her kitchen aesthetic as “English classic with a contemporary twist”, Tammy worked with XBD Collective and Smallbone to achieve her desired result, an open plan kitchen and entertaining space where the creation, as well as the consumption, of cuisine can be relished.

“As a Hong Konger, I am very passionate about food. Having a good functional kitchen is very important to me, it means happy family time, sharing a nice meal together.”

Tammy is also clear about why it was important to have a complete suite of Gaggenau appliances, “The full surface induction cooktop and combi-steam have enhanced my cooking. The cooktop can generate very high temperature in very short time which is essential in wok stir fry dishes. Chinese cooking involves a lot of steam dishes, such as steamed fish and dim sum and the combi-steam oven produces fantastic, unique results.”

An adventurous chef, Tammy is always happy to try new recipes, ingredients and even appliances. “My favourite appliance now, has to be the combi-steam. I have to thank both my kitchen designer and Gaggenau executive for convincing me to have the combi-steam and forgo a microwave.”
